Special Volunteer Day - Union Cemetery Cleanup

Help us care for a part of Cresson’s history that extends beyond the sanatorium grounds.

Join us at Union Cemetery in Cresson, PA, on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to noon for a volunteer cleanup. We’ll spend two hours clearing overgrowth around the graves and giving this historic burial place some much-needed attention.

The adjoining institutional burial ground is the resting place of former tuberculosis patients from the sanatorium, along with residents of the later Cresson Center. Some graves are unmarked. Cresson Center staff once cared for this burial ground, and SCI Cresson later continued that upkeep. Helping care for it today is one way we can remember the people whose lives are part of Cresson’s history.

What to bring:

• Any landscaping tools you have available, such as rakes, hand pruners, or loppers

• Work gloves and sturdy shoes
